Supporting documents for international student applications

Together with a completed and signed International Student application form, all students are required to provide the following supporting documents for Massey to assess student eligiblity:

Documentation for undergraduate students:

  • Evidence of citizenship (birth certificate or current passport)
  • High School graduation certificate
  • Academic transcripts with grading scale for each semester of study at any institution you have studied at
  • Evidence of English Language proficiency
  • Course outlines, if applying for credit assessment
  • Portfolio or audition tape, if applying for a Design, Fine Arts, or Music programme
  • Evidence of any scholarships you have been awarded for your intended study at Massey University
  • A statement of any disability or health condition from a health professional, if applicable

Documentation for postgraduate students:

  • Evidence of citizenship (birth certificate or current passport)
  • A graduation certificate for your Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degrees (or equivalent) from a recognised institution
  • Academic transcripts with grading scale for each semester of study for your Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree at any institution you have studied at
  • Evidence of English language proficiency
  • Portfolio or audition tape, if applying for a Design, Fine Arts, or Music programme
  • Research proposal if applying for a PhD in Design and Fine Arts (see below)
  • Evidence of any scholarships for your intended study at Massey University
  • A statement of any disability or medical condition from a health professional, if applicable

English Language Requirements for Undergraduate & Postgraduate Programmes

Students from a country where English is not the first language, must obtain a minimum English Language competency level. Some programmes require a higher level of English Language competency than the minimum requirement indicated, students can view further details on specific programme requirements.

Massey University recognises the following English Language examinations:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    Only Academic IELTS scores are acceptable. A scanned copy of academic IELTS scores is acceptable as Massey is able to verify results online.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    A scanned copy of TOEFL scores is acceptable as Massey is able to verify results online. (This applies to iBT test results only)

Exceptions to the Minimum English Language Proficiency for Specific Programmes

Bachelor of Aviation (Air Transport Pilot) 6.5 overall (with no band less than 6.0) Paper-based test (P) – minimum score of 575, TWE 4.0; or internet-based test (iBT) – 90 (minimum writing 20)
Bachelor of Journalism 7.0 overall Only IELTS is acceptable
Bachelor of Nursing 6.5 in every band
Bachelor of Speech and Language Therapy 7.0 in every band Only IELTS is acceptable
Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Group 2 – professional programme) 7.0 in every band (with no band less than 6.5)
Please note the English language entry requirements for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Group 1 – pre-selection semester) is the standard academic IELTS 6.0 (no band less than 5.5), or its equivalent.
Only IELTS is acceptable
Graduate Diploma Teaching 7.0 in every band Only IELTS is acceptable
Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (Psychology) 7.0 with no band less than 6.5 Only IELTS is acceptable
Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism 7.0 in every band Only IELTS is acceptable

  • Evidence of English language proficiency (U/G: 6.0 IELTS /P/G: 6.5 IELTS)

  • Postgraduate programmes and Commercial Music require a Skype interview / audtion, and applicants will be contacted by the College after submitting a complete application.
  • Master of Design and Master of Fine Arts applicants require a research proposal and applicants will be contacted to provide this after submitting a complete application.
