Massey Programs with Entry Requirements

AGRICOMMERCE

Master of AgriCommerce / Postgraduate Diploma in AgriCommerce

It is an Alternative course  for Applicants with a Business background (and no Agriculture) The requirements are as below:

  • Alternative Background: if an applicant has a strong background in the following areas then they could be considered for entry into the PGDip AgriCommerce:
    • International Agribusiness or International Business
    • Economics
    • Trade, especially International Trade
    • Marketing.
  • Relevant papers: economics, agribusiness, animal agriculture, livestock.
  • GPA: need a 65% GPA for Masters across relevant papers (and in final year); if do not meet this requirement can drop down to PGDip (although need a minimum of 60% for this programme).

 

CONSTRUCTION

Master of Construction

Academic background: Applicant MUST have a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction. If they have a 4-year degree equivalent to Honours can get straight into Master’s. If they have 3-year degree needs 3+ years of work experience in Construction sector in professional capacity (otherwise they will be dropped down to the PGDip).

GPA: Entry requirement of 65% minimum GPA in final year for Master’s.

  • Relevant Theory papers in exams: The marks to be focussed on are those received in clearly construction or engineering related papers. Also to be focussed on the theory marks in exams. If these are averaging below 65% does not meet entry for Master’s.

 

Post Graduate Diploma in Construction

Academic background: Applicant MUST have a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction (three or four years – does not matter for PGDip).

If an applicant has a GPA above 55% for highest level relevant papers with 3+ years of work experience, then we can consider for entry and overlook the borderline GPA.

  • Relevant Theory papers in exams: The marks to be focussed on are those received in clearly construction or engineering related papers. Also to be focussed on the theory marks in exams. If these are averaging below 60% does not meet entry for Post Graduate Diploma.

 

ENGINEERING

PG Dip/Master of Engineering Studies (Mechatronics)

Admission Requirements: 

Pre-degree requirements: Applicants for both the Master’s and PGDip must have the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree with Honours or a 3 year Bachelor’s degree plus a PGDip.

Academic background: Applicant must have a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics (or equivalent);

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Automation also acceptable.
  • Mechanical Engineering and Robotics are acceptable.

PG Dip / Master of Engineering Studies (EIM)

Pre-degree requirements: Applicants for both the Master’s and PGDip must have the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree with Honours or a 3 year Bachelor’s degree plus a PGDip.

Academic background: Applicant must have a Bachelor of Engineering with industrial experience or a background related to innovation or innovation management (or equivalent), i.e. majoring in Industrial Engineering / Industrial Production; Mechanical Engineering with Management and Entrepreneurship and product life cycle management etc. in their degree.

  • Given that a research project forms a core part of the programme, most of which are industry based and supported by a specific company, a background in project work (product development) would be good.
  • Aerospace and Applied Electronics not suitable for this major.

GPA: Applicant’s need a minimum of 65% GPA in their final year. Focus on the relevant theory exams in their engineering papers (not project work, group work, or practical / lab work).

PGDip / Master of Engineering Studies (Energy Management)

  • Academic Background: Students needs to have been awarded or qualified for the following:
  • Must have – an undergraduate degree (equivalent to an engineering degree), with the relevant background for requested major, that has been successfully achieved.
  • No GPA is needed, however the student must be seen as succeeding (not a lot of failed papers) and must be successful in science/engineering related papers.
  • Must have relevant academic background associated with the major intended.
  • Must have either an Honours degree or equivalent and equivalent can include four or five year degrees.
  • Must be at a recognised institution using NARIC/NOOSR tools to determine recognition
  • Relevant papers: Thermodynamics, Industrial Process, Meteorology (energy resources including weather, wind and solar), Heat and Fluid, Heating and Cooling.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Master of Environmental Management / Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management

Academic Background: Preferably need a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management. Applicant needs Agriculture (soil and plant science, land use), Economics, Geography, and Ecology background (however, if missing one of these can send to the College).

GPA: Need to have GPA B (65%) average in the relevant papers (and final year). If lower then can offer PG Dip (although need minimum of 60% for this programme)

 

FOOD TECHNOLOGY

Master of Food Technology

Academic background: Needs a Food Technology / Food Science / Food Engineering background. Subjects that applicant’s need a background in include: Food Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. Other papers include Food engineering and food processing papers, but not food management. Cannot just be one or two papers – must be a majority. Applicants with a Biochemistry background could be considered (about 50%).

Backgrounds not appropriate: The applicant may have papers in the following subjects, but a major in these subjects is insufficient: Microbiology and Biotechnology. A health related degree is not acceptable (i.e. Human Nutrition).

GPA: Need at least a B average (65%) in the final year

 

Graduate Diploma in Technology (Food Technology)

Academic Background: Passes in 100-level and 200- level Physics, Maths, and Chemistry (GPA not an issue).

 

INFORMATION SCIENCES

Postgraduate Diploma in Information Sciences

Academic Background: Applicant must have completed a Bachelor of Information Science (or its equivalent). Computer Science is a particularly difficult endorsement and requires programming background (Java, C++ language, Python).

GPA: Must have a GPA of 65%+ (B average) in highest level relevant papers. Focus on highest level papers (3rd / 4th year) and focus on the marks achieved in theory exams (especially for Indian applicants)

 

Master of Information Sciences

Academic Background: Applicant must have completed a Bachelor of Information Science (or its equivalent). Computer Science is a particularly difficult endorsement and requires programming background (Java, C++ language, Python).

GPA: Must have a GPA of 65%+ (B average) in highest level relevant papers. Focus on highest level papers (3rd / 4th year) and focus on the marks achieved in theory exams (especially for Indian applicants).

 

Graduate Diploma in Information Science

Academic background: students must first have been awarded any degree equivalent to a New Zealand Bachelor’s degree;

GPA requirement: no GPA calculation / no programming background required into this programme.

 

LOGISTICS & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (LSCM)

Master of Supply Chain Management

Academic background: Applicant MUST have a Bachelor degree in LSCM or Post Graduate Diploma in LSCM to get into the Master’s. Otherwise will automatically drop down to PGDip.

GPA: Must meet entry requirements for postgraduate study (minimum of 60% GPA in final year).

Work experience: Applicant will also need more than two years of relevant experience (in LSCM, procurement, managing the end to end supply of goods). The work experience is crucial for entry into this programme.

 

Post Graduate Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Academic background: Applicant preferably has a Bachelor degree in Business although can have any degree if they have the work experience.

  • Applicants with an MBA (with min. 60% GPA) are eligible for entry into the PGDip without the work experience requirement.

GPA: Must meet entry requirements for postgraduate study (minimum of 60% GPA in final year).

Work experience: Applicant will also need more than two years of relevant experience (in LSCM, procurement, managing the end to end supply of goods). The work experience is crucial for entry into this programme.

Entry without degree: One of the only postgraduate programmes an applicant can get into without a degree. If they have five to ten years of work experience at senior management level in LSCM can be considered.

 

VETERINARY STUDIES / MEDICINE / SCIENCE

Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Science

Academic Background: Applicants MUST hold a veterinary degree – Bachelor of Veterinary Science or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)

Backgrounds not appropriate: Animal Science degrees are not sufficient for entry into this programme – assess for Master of Science (Animal Science) instead.

GPA: Must have a GPA of at least 60% (B- average) in final year.

 

Master of Veterinary Studies

Academic Background: Applicants MUST hold a veterinary degree – Bachelor of Veterinary Science or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)

GPA: Must have a GPA of at least 65% (B average) in final year. Ideally they will have a 70% (B+ average)

 

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE / MASTER OF SCIENCE

Agricultural Science:

Academic background: Agriculture background is required. Including soil science, animal science, agricultural/horticultural soil. Biotech engineering degree is not suitable for this major

GPA: need to have GPA of 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Animal Science:

Academic background: dairy, poultry, sheet, beef cattle, pig production related area. If the degree is too agriculture related, it’s not suitable for his major. Suitable for applicant’s with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science.

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Computer Science:

Academic background: strong programming background. If degree is only in IT, maybe considered for Master of Information Sciences; Student with programming background can do either MInfSci or MSc

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Conservation Biology:

Academic background: ecology, conservation, wild life management, zoology, biology

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Earth Science:

Academic background: geology, land, volcano, hydrology, soil. Massey does not offer petroleum related papers

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Horticulture Science:

Academic background: plant physiology, soil. Landscape is not relevant.

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Psychology:

Academic background: psychology degree. Degree doesn’t have to be BSc. BA in Psychology is also acceptable

Higher IELTS requirement: requires IELTS 7.0 with no band less than 6.5, same as PGDip and Master of Art (Psychology)

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

 

Soil Science:

Academic background: soil related area. The MSc Soil Science pre-requisites would be met by the two soil science papers Introductory Soil Science (200 level) , Soil Microbiology (400 level), plus crediting material in Geographic Information systems (400 level),Environmental sampling and analysis (300 level), Waste treatment and remediation (300 level) that we would cover in Soil and Earth Science papers at Massey.

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Zoology:

Academic background: animal ecology related area, zoology, animal behaviour. Massey offers papers related to Weta, Skinks and birds.

GPA: 65% for Master, 60% for PG

Biochemistry:

Academic background: BSc with strong Biochemistry background across highest level papers. Needs Molecular Biology background.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Biological Sciences:

Academic Background: BSc with strong Biology background across highest level papers.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Chemistry:

Academic Background: BSc with strong Chemistry background across highest level papers.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Genetics:

Academic background: BSc with strong Genetics background across highest level papers. Needs Molecular Biology background.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Human Nutrition:

Academic background: BSc with strong Human Nutrition background across highest level papers.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Mathematics:

Background: BSc with strong Mathematics background across highest level papers.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Microbiology:

Academic background: BSc with strong Microbiology background across highest level papers.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Nanoscience:

Academic background: BSc with strong Nanoscience background across highest level papers (Nanoscience involves a lot of Chemistry and Physics)

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Nutritional Science:

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year

Statistics:

Academic background: BSc with strong Statistics background across highest level papers.

GPA: 75%+ for Master of Science in final year / 70%+ for PGDip Science in final year
