NMIT’s (Nelson Marlborough Institute Of Technology) Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise programme is the Institute’s highest level qualification and combines theoretical and applied approaches to equip students with advanced analytical and entrepreneurial skills training. The Level 8 programme, which consists of six months’ face-to-face tuition plus an 12 month  applied project, will enable students to identify opportunities for future employment and self-employment, based on the creation of innovative and economically viable business enterprises. Students who are already in employment will also benefit from the convenient delivery of the programme, with taught classes taking place over a ‘three-day weekend’.

Career Outcomes
As a graduate of NMIT’s Post Graduate Diploma in Business Enterprise students will have the skills to go onto work in strategic management, business management, corporate planning, human resources management, technology support services or continue the studies and pathway into AUT’s MBA or Masters Programme.

Programme Structure
Student will be in face-to-face classes for the first six months of the programme to undertake six business papers plus the Research Methodology paper. Classes are held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday allowing you to work part-time during the rest of the week. After the first six months of taught papers, student will need to complete a Research Dissertation which takes 1200 hours.

Student can undertake the dissertation anywhere in New Zealand and they will be required to be in regular communication with the dissertation supervisor. Student may also be required to visit Nelson from time to time for face-to-face contact with academic staff.

Entry Requirements
Student will need to hold a business-related degree in any discipline from a recognised overseas tertiary institution and show evidence of an IELTS overall academic score of at least 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each band) issued within the last two years or equivalent.

As a ‘Category 1’ provider NMIT can assess your English Language level in a number of ways including:

  • completion of all primary education and at least 3 years of secondary education (that is, the equivalent of New Zealand Forms 3 to 7 or years 9 to 13) at schools using English as the language of instruction
  • completion of at least 5 years of secondary education (that is, the equivalent of New Zealand Forms 3 to 7 or years 9 to 13) at schools using English as the language of instruction
  • completion of tertiary education of at least three years’ duration using face-to-face delivery and English as the language of instruction in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States
  • other English language test results including those listed in the English Language test equivalency table
  • completion of one of NMIT’s English Language programmes. Gain entry onto many of our Diploma, Degree, Graduate Diploma  or Postgraduate Diploma programmes without having to do a separate IELTS test
  • successful result in an IELTS test. NMIT is an official IELTS testing centre and you can take the IELTS exam with us on various dates throughout the year.

Diploma in Aquaculture (Fish Farming and Fishery Management)

This diploma will prepare students to work in the aquaculture industry and create a pathway towards management. There is an increasing need for qualified and professional people to work in the aquaculture industry. Gain employment within the aquaculture workforce as operators and/or technicians, fisheries consulting, research sales, enhancement culture or progress on to further study. Students will gain knowledge and skills in aquaculture systems, how they work, and how to best manage them. Students will also become familiar with basic aquatic species biology, aquatic ecology, and business management. This new programme has been developed in consultation with industry, such as New Zealand King Salmon, Sealord, Aquaculture New Zealand, Aotearoa Seafoods and Marine Farming Association of New Zealand.

Certificate in Nursing (Competence Assessment Programme) (Level 7)

The Certificate in Nursing (Competence Assessment Programme) (Level 7) programme prepares you, if you have an overseas nursing qualification, to work in New Zealand by providing you with the knowledge and skills of current professional nursing practice. Successful applicants will also learn how to further develop nursing assessment and decision making skills and the practical work placement will provide Registered Nurses with clinical experience to meet the competencies for the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice.

English Language entry requirements
Students must have an international English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic band score of at least 7.0 across all bands issued within the last two years, or equivalent. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively to practice within their scope of practice.

If they have IELTS 7.0 across all bands in one sitting,  students may be eligible for direct CAP entry. If  students have IELTS 7.0 across all bands in more than one sitting you would first need to enrol on the 18-week CAP Prep programme before you can begin the CAP mainstream programme.

Programme entry requirements
All international applicants are required to complete an NMIT International Student Application form and submit certified copies of the following documentation in order to be considered for a place on this programme:

  • Passport
  • IELTS results (see English Language Entry Requirements above)
  • NMIT Health Declaration form (this will be sent to you when you enquire or apply)

Nursing Council Decision letter with the following documents that was required for the Nursing Council decision letter application:

  • Two professional references
  • One character reference
  • Police certificate from country of origin
  • Nursing Registration Certificate
  • Employment letter with the hours worked as a registered nurse in the last three years

The Nursing Council Decision letter must be current at the beginning of your studies.  NMIT offers placement in general clinical placements. NMIT offers a general programme and does not cater for specialised topics i.e. pharmacology.

Would like to create world class wines or manage a vineyard? In this hands-on, practical programme students will gain substantial theoretical understanding and a broad range of technical and practical skills related to grape growing and wine production. Medical Reports 
For applicants who do not submit medical reports with their application, conditional offer documents will be issued.  In order for conditionally accepted applicants to be given an unconditional offer document, they will be required to submit the following medical reports:

  • Student must provide a negative MRSA screening of nose, groin and natal cleft.  Clinical practice areas will not accept a student into their facilities with a positive MRSA screen. Treatment, should it be required, can be a lengthy and costly process. The MRSA test can be done once you arrive in New Zealand however the Head of Nursing strongly recommends this test be completed prior to leaving your country of origin.
  • Students must provide a recent Quantiferon Gold blood test.  If your readings are inconclusive or outside of the acceptable parameters further investigation may be required – ie chest x-ray, medical follow up.  A written report from the follow up will be required by NMIT, stating findings and satisfactory health and no risk posed.  The Quantiferon Gold blood test can be done once you arrive in New Zealand however the Head of Nursing strongly recommends this be completed prior to leaving your country of origin.
  • Further serology screening may be required – varicella, measles, mumps, rubella – this will be dependent upon the prospective student’s clinical placement.  However, a current certified copy of the screening results from your home country may be used. Should students be asked to screen/re-screen once they are in New Zealand, they must do so at their own cost.

Please note:

  • A further MRSA screen will be undertaken within the first week of class (at the prospective student’s expense).
  • Tetanus and Hepatitis B protection is strongly recommended.
  • Once you start your classes, you will be required to signed a Confidentiality Declaration form that must be witnessed by the Justice of Peace before you commence your clinical practice.
  • Students will be required to complete the Ministry of Justice – Request for Copy of Criminal Convictions form when you have been in New Zealand for five months or longer.

      The course you have mention is an undergraduate course at level 5. You have already completed your degree and 5 yrs of work experience. It will be a big risk for visa. You need to look for some PG courses.
      Also for PG courses you need 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.

      You have good grades, you can apply for postgraduation courses in Business majoring in Marketing, Finance, Accounting etc. You need to take your IELTS and get 6.5 with no band less than 6.0

      You can go for Management programs in New Zealand but you have to retake your IELTS and get 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.

    I am from India and have enrolled for Graduate Diploma IT level 7, I have still not got my conditional offer letter for NMIT Auckland campus.

    for paid internship student has to pay from their pocket for any enrollment of 800$ ?
    What is IT industry situation in NZ, in case I want to move from Auckland campus to Nelson campus later is it possible ?

      You can apply for Graduate Diploma in Management or Marketing at NMIT. Fee for the one year program is about NZD 18,000 and the course includes paid internship also. You should take IELTS instead of Toefl.
