The new Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Applied Practice are flexible qualifications with a strong focus on collaboration between study disciplines, which allows Unitec to customise study plans for each student’s needs and interests (rather than requiring students to follow a strictly-dictated study plan). The Masters Programme includes a research component which can be undertaken over a semester or a year (or more) depending on the depth a student wishes to go into; it is possible to complete the postgraduate diploma in 1 year or the masters in 1.5 years.

More information can be found on website http://www.unitec.ac.nz/about-us/postgraduate-qualifications-in-applied-practice and Unitec expect to add new specialisations in future but at present the available options are:

  • *Generic: students customise their study to their own experience and interests.
  • *Clinical Research: includes topics like clinical research design and practical biostatistics; a good option for health professionals involved in clinical research, or a science/statistics graduate who wants to work in clinical research.
  • *Health Science: includes evidence-based healthcare in New Zealand, with elective courses related to leadership and systematic reviews; a good option for a registered nurse who wants to move into a social services role, or a health manager who wants to evaluate the cost of running a screening programme.
  • *Social Practice: includes topics like New Zealand social policy, human rights and social justice, and contemporary issues in community engagement; a good option for a community development practitioner who wants to develop skills in research consumership.

Hi, I have completed my 4 year B.E(civil) in 2014 and I am working since then. I am looking for a level 7 or level 8 pg diploma or graduate diploma course in construction management. I wish to study in New Zealand. Are there any such courses offered by the universities or the institutes of New Zealand?

    • Geebee Counsellor says :

      Hi Sowmya,

After completing Masters in India it would not be advisable to go for PG Diploma and you need to give a strong reason why you were not working from 2012 to 2016.
