Masters Students on the following programmes will be supported to obtain a work placement as an integral part of their MSc Course at Plymouth University

  • MSc Computer & Information Security
  • MSc Computer Science
  • MSc Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • MSc Network Systems Engineering
  • MSc Robotics


The Plymouth International Technology Scholarship is worth £2,750 and is only available to International Students applying for the above courses for September 2014 entry.

The scholarship seeks to recognise the academic excellence of international students and is available to those students who meet the criteria detailed on website:

How does the placement year work?

Visa – Students will enrol on the one year full time MSc course and will be eligible to apply for paid placements with a range of UK based companies. Students must pass a rigorous application and interview process with the company and if successful will be supported by the University to extend their visa to cover their placement year.

Structure – Students may start the placement after the completion of the taught components of the course and return to complete their dissertation or they may commence their placement whilst undertaking their dissertation and if appropriate base their dissertation on an aspect of their work placement. Placements will normally run for 48 weeks.

Support – Students will be able to access a range of support services including regular briefing sessions and support for CV and application writing.

Entry Requirements – Students must meet the normal entry requirements for their chosen course.

What sort of placements opportunities are available?

The University has an outstanding record in helping students to secure good placements with a wide range of small, medium and large companies including Bosch, IBM, Microsoft and Toshiba to name just a few. Plymouth University has a dedicated placement and careers team who will help students with all aspects of placement preparation and application. Each year Plymouth University advertise hundreds of placement vacancies – competition is strong and students may be competing with students from across the UK to secure the best placements.
