Trading Boot Camp with Amplify Trading

As part of the Stirling Management School’s focus on enhancing the employability of graduates, at the end of the spring semester 2015 University of Stirling will be running a week-long trading master class for students on campus in conjunction with London-based Amplify Trading. Participating courses include MSc Banking and Finance, MSc Finance, MSc International Accounting and Finance, MSc Investment Analysis and the MBA.

The aim of the Boot Camp is to bridge the gap between an academic understanding of financial markets and the implementation of trading strategies in the real world. During the intensive week students will have the opportunity to trade across multiple asset classes using live market data, gaining first-hand experience of how intra-day trading actually works. A performance prize will be offered allowing a number of students the opportunity to visit the London dealing floor of Amplify Trading for a week to gain first-hand experience of working as a trader.

New Innovative Improvements to Pre-sessional English Language courses

The content of the University’s pre-sessional courses has been redeveloped to ensure that they continue to provide a high quality of English language full support to all incoming students transitioning into their chosen programmes.  Specifically the courses will concentrate on the development of the four key skills; reading, writing, speaking and listening, and include focused classes on essay writing skills, conversation confidence, research techniques, subject specific information and individualised support sessions. Also included in the programme are a number of social activities such as a conversation café and other social events which encourage the integration of pre-sessional students with native speakers.

As previously advised, the University of Stirling will offer a range of English language courses from June – August 2014 for students holding an offer of a place at the University of Stirling. Details of the specific entry requirements, course fees and application procedures for these 12, 6 and 3 week courses are provided at

This high quality intensive English language pre-sessional programme will ensure international students develop an excellent level of academic English and that it will be a strong preparation for entering University of Stirling Master’s degree programmes.

Change in IELTS for Stirling Management School Masters’ Finance Programmes

For September 2014 entry, the University of Stirling IELTS requirements for four finance programmes in Stirling Management School have been changed to: 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each component skill.

These entry criteria now apply to the four finance programmes:

  • MSc Investment Analysis
  • MSc Finance
  • MSc International Accounting and Finance
  • MSc Banking and Finance

The University is very confident that this level of English language proficiency is sufficient for students to perform well and succeed on these Masters’ programmes. There are already excellent completion rates from the other Stirling Management School programmes which have the 6.0 (5.5) entry standard.

An enhanced programme of in-sessional English language support with a dedicated English language support team was introduced in 2013-14. This is offered free to all students each semester and this has been extremely popular with all University of Stirling international students. The classes provide subject-specific English language and academic skills support, tailored to the student’s needs. University of Stirling believes that students will benefit from continued English language development before and during their studies, providing them with the tools to succeed in their Master’s study.

For students who have already received an offer of a place on one of the four finance programmes listed above, a revised offer will be sent to them shortly.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us for any further information.

  1. Geebee Counsellor says :

MSc in Banking and Finance at Stirling can be done by graduates from any field. As the entry criteria suggests — “This program is aimed at students from a variety of backgrounds, including students with no previous training in economics or accountancy”. However applicants are also encouraged to have “significant appropriate/relevant work/life experience”.

University of Stirling is well known for its business programs. However, we would strongly recommend you to take some additional steps before applying for this programs —
