University of California Riverside (UCR) One-Year Postgraduate Diploma provides in-depth knowledge and on-the-job experience, which will give a unique advantage when students apply for jobs. University of California Riverside (UCR) has identified several key industries with great career potential for a year long graduate-level program unlike any other.
UCR’s Postgraduate Diploma programs offer comprehensive postgraduate-level study that prepares students to work in their field in a management capacity anywhere in the world and include a required internship in a U.S. company as part of the program. University of California Riverside (UCR) postgraduate diplomas may also offer qualified students the opportunities for advanced Master’s study at select universities in the U.S.
Students who successfully complete a UCR postgraduate program are eligible for one year of paid optional practical training in the United States.
PG Diploma in Management:-

Here’s How It Works
Quarter 1: Postgraduate Certificate in Management (3 months)
The program will enhance core management skills with Postgraduate Certificate in Management. This includes lectures, interactive discussions, case studies and site visits to Southern California businesses and covers the fundamental global management strategies. Students will get the tools needed to be a successful leader in any industry, anywhere in the world.
Students will gain the best international perspective on management. Students will explore management principles through five 2-week modules including global human resources, global marketing, finance, technology and strategic management. This will strengthen core leadership skills, gain maximum exposure to American business practices, and apply the latest management techniques for global business environments in five key areas:
- Global Human Resources Management – Get introduced to workplace trends in recruiting and training, organizational behaviour, labour-employee relations and more.
- Global Marketing Management – Focus on international entrepreneurship, global thinking, internet marketing, consumer behaviour and more.
- Multinational Financial Management – Concentrate on issues within the world’s financial markets, emerging markets, international trade, currency and more.
- Managing Change and Technology – Examine change at the individual, organizational and technological levels, how to manage information systems, innovation and more.
- Strategic Management – Use discussions and role-playing to master global negotiations, cross-cultural communication, competitive advantage and more.
Quarter 2: Choose Specialization (3-5 months)
Once students have completed the first quarter in Fundamentals of Management and earned Postgraduate Certificate in Management, build specialized skills related to individual goals. Take a 4-unit Marketing course. Develop career focused and a marketing plan to help create a personal brand. Learn critical job strategies, define career goals, gain confidence for interviewing, and more.
For students who choose to major in Management, they can select three additional courses from a wide range of courses offered as part of the Extension Certificates in Management, including courses in:
- Non-Profit Management
- Event Management
- Small Business Management
- Human Resource Management
- Lean Six Sigma
- Purchasing, Logistics and Supply Change Management
- Project Management
Students who choose to concentrate in Hospitality can select three additional courses offered as part of the Extension Certificates in Management, including courses in:

- Event Management
Advanced level Engineering students who wish to broaden and extend their knowledge in an international context will select 3 upper level campus courses in a specific Engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical or Computer). Courses are on a limited and space available basis. A list of available courses will be provided in the first quarter.
Advanced level Biotechnology or Bio-Engineering students who wish to broaden and extend their knowledge in an international context will select Bio-Engineering. Courses are on a limited and space available basis. A list of available courses will be provided in the first quarter.
Entertainment & Media Concentration-
Move to Los Angeles and study for 5 months at the Los Angeles Film School. Course options include:

Quarter 3: Participate in an Unpaid Internship (3 months)
University of California Riverside (UCR) internship coordinator can provide with the tools needed to find the best unpaid internship. All internships will be at a Hollywood studio or company. Companies all over the world are looking for professionals who have practical work experience in the U.S. Join an American company, city government office, professional firm, non-profit organization, or other U.S. employer and apply what students learn. Take an 8-unit Understanding the American Workplace course to support internship. Students who successfully complete the course requirements are eligible for an internship in the final quarter in an industry related to their field or diploma. Internships are supervised professional positions which give students the opportunity to be part of an American company and have real world experience in their field.
During the third quarter internship, students are enrolled in a course called Understanding the American Workplace, which supports their internship in an academic context by helping them understand and analyze students work experience. Internships are unpaid positions lasting for 12 weeks. University of California Riverside (UCR) internships are normally in midsized companies in the Inland Empire and LA County areas. However, students may undertake an internship outside the LA County region or in another state, with approval. University of California Riverside (UCR) internship coordinator will work with students to help them locate a position that meets their career needs.
Students will be assisted to prepare a resume and train for a successful interview.
Earn Postgraduate Diploma, Stay in the U.S. for a Year of Paid Work Experience
F-1 students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma are eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) to work for 1 year in their field of study in the U.S. University of California Riverside (UCR) dedicated, experienced staff can help students apply. - Advanced English language required: TOEFL 550 PBT, 80 iBT; IELTS 6.5; or the equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of academic & management experience) required

No GMAT or Management experience required
- This program requires an F-1 visa.
- Students may get direct entry into the program with an official TOEFL score or equivalent; they will still be required to take an assessment test upon arrival so University of California Riverside (UCR) can support students during their studies.
